The Success Toolkit is a one-stop location for no-cost online resources for students and parents to promote student success.
The Toolkit is located on all UCS websites and conveniently on mobile devices using the UCS App. Here is a brief listing of the resources you will find:
Virtual Library Card
The UCS Virtual Library Card includes access to eBooks, music streaming and downloads, eMagazines, and a host of other electronic reference resources. Also available: Tutor.com
Login to any of the resources listed with a student’s Virtual Library Card Number (UCS + PowerSchool ID example UCS1000045678) and 4-digit PIN/Password (student’s birth month and day (May 12 = 0512).
To use the virtual card:
Go to the UCS Success Toolkit, located on all UCS websites and on the UCS app, then click on the Virtual Library Card icon. Login to any of the resources listed with the supplied Library Card Number and PIN provided in the email.
OverDrive features fiction and nonfiction ebooks and audiobooks for a 14 - 21 day loan. Kindle book, EPUB, PDF, MP3 and OverDrive platform. Apps for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Windows and PC/Mac. Students in Sterling Heights schools should click the second OverDrive button for access.
RB Digital gives access to approximately 100 popular magazines in electronic format, current and back issues, with unlimited checkouts and no due dates. Apps for iOS, Android, Kindle Fire HD/HDX and PC/Mac. Students will need to "Create New Account" when accessing this feature.
Freegal: Find over 9 million songs and 15,000 music videos for MP3 format. Offers 5 titles per week to download and keep and 3 hours daily streaming. Apps for iOS, Android and PC/Mac.
Tutor.com provides online, on-demand academic tutoring, homework help and test preparation to K-12 students. Certified, subject expert tutors are available in over 60 subjects and test prep every day of the week from 12 Noon – Midnight. Tutor.com can assist with all levels of math, science, social studies, English, foreign languages, ESL, AP, essay and resume review. It also includes a writing lab, ACT/SAT test preparation from The Princeton Review, Advanced Placement course videos and much more. Beck and Ebeling elementary students needs to log in using their identified button.
A Virtual Library Card gives students access to digital resources only. Students wishing to upgrade their access to check out print materials and other items should contact the library assigned to their school. Click here for a listing of schools and their assigned libraries.
Naviance
Naviance provides students with college planning and career assessment tools. Previously offered to UCS high school students, the program has expanded this year to include junior high students.
Khan Academy
A personalized learning resource for students of all ages. Offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace.
College Board
The College Board helps students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success — including the SAT and the Advanced Placement Program. A student may link their Khan Academy and College Board accounts providing personalized practice based on a student’s practice PSAT/SAT results.
