Summary of the March 16 Board of Education

The Board of Education celebrated the accomplishment of academic scholars from Henry Ford II and the Utica Academy for International Studies.

Superintendent's Update
Dr. Johns updated the Board of Education on the district graduation rate, spring musicals, the K-12 UCS Art Fair, and a community celebration for the Eisenhower Dance team competing in an international competition. 

Cybersecurity Course
The Board of Education held a first reading on a high school cybersecurity course. The Cybersecurity Course topics will include how to be safe online by understanding the most common threats and vulnerabilities, how business processes evaluate and solve cybersecurity problems and it will teach students how to protect their personal data and privacy online.

Meeting Change
The Board of Education approved a meeting location for March 26 to Flickinger Elementary. Board of Education members will have the opportunity to visit classrooms for demonstrations highlighting a variety of core curricular activities starting at 6:00 p.m.

Contract Approval
The following bid contracts were approved: 2018 abatement projects in construction with summer renovation building projects; filters of various styles and sizes used in heating and cooling equipment throughout the district; renovation work to support the development of the Stevenson MADE Academy; mechanical work to accompany previously awarded renovations to the food service kitchens at Burr and Havel Elementary Schools; annual fire alarm system inspection and testing as required by National Fire Protection Association; and FANUC robotics equipment for the mechatronics program at the Center for Science and Industry
